I would like to apologise for the delay in posting about my trip so far. I did say this was going to be an adventure and, well, it has been interesting.

Last Friday, Day 3 of my Journey, I was riding through Avignon on my way to Montpellier. After spending an amazing morning riding from Valence and up to the summit of Mt Ventoux. During ‘rush hour’ traffic, I entered a roundabout and as I am exiting from it a car turns straight into me. The next thing I remember is waking, surrounded by police and paramedics, and screaming in agony.

Long story short, I was hospitilised for 5 days (finally discharged last night) with 6 broken ribs on the left as they join the spine, and some fairly sever injury to my left shoulder.

So, the adventure continues. Perhaps with a slightly different format, still yet to be decided. The doctors reckon 2 months before I’ll be right again. It’s amazing the things most of us take for granted, like putting sock on or sitting down.

My sister is arriving from Zimbabwe today to give me a hand for a little while, maybe I can convince her to move to the South of France with me and open a coffee shop on the beach 🙂

Anyhow, that’s enough from me today. I am including a photo of my helmet, I haven’t seen my bike yet. Please show your friends who may ride. There is no excuse not to have decent protection. Those of us who ride know the dangers, but for the love of everything holy, protect yourself as much as you can (without going to extremes of course as some governments would like us to). A decent lid and protective clothing probably saved my life.

Stay safe and I’ll let you know how it goes. 🙂 xx
